Under general direction of the Programming Manager, this position is responsible for the underlying architecture of software projects, as well as overseeing the work being done by software developers working on those projects. The Senior Programmer will act as a mentor for new or low-level software developers as well as all members of the software development team.


Leads the development team, building and maintaining enterprise grade software systems, on top of the Microsoft .NET development stack. Works closely with product management to understand business needs and translate those business needs and requirements into technical specifications. Serves as technical advisor to management, and has ownership and supervisorial responsibilities in delegating work assignments to ensure projects are completed on time.

Exercises overall responsibility for trouble shooting and resolving production support issues as reported by the users while working with functional and business teams to understand the business user requirements. Works with development team to provide day-to-day maintenance of production application systems. Regularly meets with user community to establish rapport and to ensure that all development needs are being met. Analyzes and resolves technical and application problems.

Oversees the architecture and technical direction of assigned software projects; acts in a senior or lead capacity by assigning and reviewing the work of others; ability to work under pressure and stringent timelines; make sound priority judgments; and have the initiative to work independently as well as in a team setting.

Oversees the work of outsourced development staff. Interacts with vendors regarding software and hardware upgrades, maintenance, training, and other relevant issues. Responsible for setting-up unit test plans and assisting in system testing. Providing estimates on assigned projects and progress reports on work performed. Researching, evaluating and recommending new software products.

Responsible for overseeing the software maintenance and enhancements to the legacy ROE system. This includes trouble shooting and resolving production support issues as reported by the users. Working closely with product management to analyze and resolve technical and application problems. Presents ideas for system improvements by creating detailed specifications and documentation in the form of flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, and charts. Is responsible for writing code and then testing the code in a controlled and real situation environment before going live.

Will perform various AS/400 and MAPICS duties when required: creation of new user accounts; management of existing objects & libraries; administration of user environments; management of background tasks; configuration of network printers and peripheral devices; management and verification of backup processes; printer spool management; and resource utilization management; coding and monitoring AS/400 queries and programs; setup and management of all MAPICS modules including application security.

Responds to emergency situations as needed for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work in response to needs of the systems being supported.

Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.


Position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or another related field as well as 5 years of software development experience. However, an equivalent combination of education and experience could provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Position requires proven experience with all of the following technologies: .NET Framework, APIís, XML, Visual Studio, C#.NET or VB.NET, AZURE cloud technology, SQL database technology, and JIRA project management tools.

Position requires the ability to analyze current software and processes, and make recommendations which could yield a more cost effective product; test new programs to ensure that logic and syntax are correct and that program results are accurate; assist lower-level programmers with programming assignments.

Position requires the ability to analyze business and technical requirements for software and develop design solutions to meet those needs; good team-management skills to plan and monitor software development through the design, programming, and testing phases so that the programs are ready for planned releases; good communications skills to collaborate with product managers, programmers and other I.T. specialists.

Working knowledge of the following technologies is desirable but not required: iSeries (AS/400), DB2 database, RPGSP, Query/400, CSS, HTML/HTML5, JavaScript, and JSON.
